Why I Chose the BMPCC 4k

One of the most common questions I get asked when I mention I am a director/videographer is

"What do you shoot with?" This question, while seemingly innocuous, holds a weight to it that only members of the filmmaker/photography community can truly understand. It is the beginning of the great "sizing up" dance. Are they serious creators? Do they work professionally? Is my camera better?

When I first began my filmmaking journey years ago, I had no idea what camera to get BUT I knew I had to get a camera that would hold up over the years and level up my short films and commercials. It took me months of researching and filmmaking education in order to make my final decision.... The Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k For anyone considering buying a high grad camera, I cannot say enough good things about this camera. The content I have shot and continue to shoot, has allowed me to level up my professional career and acquire more jobs and many high tier projects. It's image quality, versatility is unmatched, not to mention the portability that allows me to travel virtually ANYWHERE with it, So, when I confidently answer the question with a resounding "Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k" I am always received with an approving nod or compliment. It's reputation, it seems, proceeds itself.

REASONS TO BUY IT:

1. Price It seems unbelievable that a camera this strong and well-liked should be under 2k but there we are Miracles do happen. At $1,295 for the body, it's the perfect base for building out your camera. You are going to drop thousands more on lenses, cages, gimbals, batteries, filters, and other accessories...so this price point is reasonable compared to the INVESTMENT of what's to come. It's refreshing to see that companies like Black Magic are creating camera that are affordable while also promising the highest level of craftmanship and customer service. Where I bought mine: Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K CINECAMPOCHDMFT4K B&H (bhphotovideo.com) 2. 4K Resolution Right as you begin shooting, you see the cinema-quality and it's a game changer. The precision of the resolution and can even out-shoot some more expensive cameras. You get all that in a lightweight form factor you won't get tired of carrying around. "The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K features a 4/3 image sensor with 4096 x 2160 resolution and an MFT lens mount, allowing you to capture wide dynamic range, Hollywood quality, digital film images in the palm of your hand!" 3. Davinci Resolve Studio

When you buy a Black Magic, you also get a key for DaVinci Resolve studio, their official film editing software. While I am a tried-and-true Premiere Pro kind of gal, I deeply appreciate DaVinci Resolve and dabble editing with it when I see fit. 4. 120 Frames Per Second For both cinematic and commercial content, I shoot, I knew I was going to need a camera that could shoot 120 fps. Let me tell you, the results are extraordinary and very often I am tempted to create a scene to utilize this fantastic feature. 60 fps is also extremely cinematic, giving a slightly elevated look to a scene.

5. Portable

I live an athletic lifestyle and need a camera that can do the same! From run and gun shooting, hiking Yosemite, to traveling the Caribbean, I want a camera that is sturdy with also being light weight and inconspicuous. The camera is surprisingly light thanks to the plastic composite shell and carbon fiber.

  • Grip: It also has a good size grip with easy access to function buttons, control dials, and a record button.

  • Easily access to ports: On the side, you’ll find memory card slots for CFast 2.0 and SD cards, and on the opposite side, you’ll find a USB-C port to connect a solid-state drive

I hope this helps and happy shooting to all you lovely creatives!!!
